I know this is silly, but I am bothered when people, especially newspaper reporters, refer to criminals as suspects.
A typical quote from a newspaper: “After robbing the store, the suspect was chased by two policemen.”
According to this usage, the suspect is not suspected of the crime; he did shoot the victim. Proper usage would be “After the store was robbed, a man suspected to be the robber was chased by two policemen.”
