Why is it that when a few Westerners die tragically do they garner so much sympathy, compared to non-Westners who die in hordes daily?. Do You Mrs or Mr own this kind of inquiry?, If do then please get the good soution right after below:

Obviously, white skin isn’t special.

But we’d be lying if we’d didn’t say that the media in the West works on the assumption that it is.

Boko Haram does truly horrific things, but it just feels so far away that it’s almost abstract and I think in a strange kind of way it just becomes “things that happen around the world” and most people care more about Pokemon Go than they do about what Boko Haram does.

When terrorism happens in a country which looks like our own we kind of wake up a bit simply because it looks familiar and the media is using it to sell ad space.

In short, white skin isn’t special, but the media know that a lot of people most certainly do see the murder of 1 white, Western, educated person as being worse than an uneducated, black person from a country they’re only vaguely aware exists.

I think it’s partly media coverage, partly the fact that Paris looks familiar and Sudan does not. There probably is some general purpose racism in there too.
