There have been lots of games in Olympics that have been discontinued. Here are two of the strange ones,

Swimming Obstacle race: This was a 200 metre course where there were three obstacles throughout the course. Swimmers had to climb over the first two (a pole and a row of boats), and swim under the third (another row of boats). This was held at River Seine.

It was held on 11 August and 12 August 1900

  1. Frederick Lane (Australia) 2:38.4
  2. Otto Wahle (AUT) 2:40.0
  3. Peter Kemp (GBR) 2:47.4

Tug-Of-War: Tug-of-war was always contested as a part of the track & field athletics. It was an Olympic sport from 1900 to 1920. This game was part of the ancient Olympics dating back to 500 BC.

In the modern Olympics, the tug-of-war contest was between two teams of eight. One team had to pull the other six feet along in order to win. If after 5 minutes no team had done this, the team which had pulled the most was declared the winner.

There were two games that bounced back from discontinuation, One is Golf and the other is Rugby. Both the games were back in 016 Olympics at Rio. Some other defunct games are croquet, cricket, Jeu de Paume (palm game), pelota, polo, roque, rackets, lacrosse, baseball, softball, and motor boating
